Introduction

Loud Snoring? Could Be Sleep Apnea

Loud snoring, gasping awake, daytime sleepiness — common signs of sleep apnea. Many Malaysians don't know they have it until a doctor runs a sleep study. 😴

The good news: CPAP can solve this dramatically. Patients usually report much sounder sleep within just 1-2 weeks.

Airway Closes During Sleep

Throat muscles relax during sleep and can briefly close the airway — sometimes dozens of times per hour. Each time, the brain wakes briefly to reopen it. Result: loud snoring and broken sleep.

Risks If Untreated

Sleep apnea is linked to high blood pressure, heart disease, depression, and drowsy-driving accidents. Don't ignore it.

What Is a CPAP Machine?

Continuous Positive Airway Pressure

A CPAP is a small machine that blows air at a constant pressure through a mask you wear at night. The pressure stops the airway from collapsing. See our CPAP machines.

Pressure Setting

Your doctor or sleep specialist sets the pressure (cmH2O) based on your sleep-study results. Typical pressure is 6-15 cmH2O.

Pick the Right Mask

Nasal Mask

Covers the nose only. Suits most users, light and less claustrophobic.

Full Face Mask

Covers nose and mouth. For mouth-breathers or chronic nasal congestion.

Nasal Pillows

Inserts into the nostrils. Most compact — suits restless sleepers.

Tips for First-Time Users

1. Practise Wearing It Before Bed

Wear the mask with the machine running while watching TV — get used to it before trying to sleep with it.

2. Use the Humidifier

CPAP can dry out the nose. Almost all modern machines have a built-in humidifier — fill it with distilled water nightly.

3. Clean the Mask Every Morning

Wipe with a damp cloth and mild soap, let it air dry. Replace the cushions every 1-3 months.

4. Give It 2-4 Weeks

Many new users feel awkward the first night or two. Don't quit — in 2-4 weeks, you'll feel more rested than in years.

Rent or Buy?

Rent to Try First

We recommend a 1-2 week rental before buying. Some patients try a few mask types before finding the most comfortable.

Buy for the Long Run

Sleep apnea is long-term. Once you find the right pressure and mask, owning your own machine saves money.

FAQ

Can I buy a CPAP without a prescription?

Easier for rental. To buy a new machine, we recommend a sleep-study report or doctor's prescription.

What if I sleep on my side?

Our masks are designed for any sleep position. Sleep apnea is actually less severe on your side than on your back.

Are CPAP machines noisy?

No. Modern machines are nearly silent — like a soft fan. Most partners aren't disturbed.

Can I bring CPAP on holiday?

Yes. Many compact machines come with a travel bag and are airline-approved.

How long does a CPAP last?

Most machines last 5-7 years with proper care. Masks and tubing should be replaced every 6-12 months.
